Our Dream

It all starts with a 'Dream' - Bruadar is Scottich Gaelic for' Our Dream.'

Our Dream started with Ebeth and I having a family. We knew right away that our ambitious plans to have four children needed a larger sailboat than our 34 foot Bristol. With our third child on the way traded up from a 1971 Bristol 34 to our new -to us- 1979 Formosa 51.

This was not an easy or painless transition. We begged, borrowed and scraped the down payment together and even then, we thought the sellers would not take our offer seriously. The rest is history. Ebeth and I had been through it before; we found the boat we wanted only to be turned away by what was a realistic price for us. Even as we outfitted the sailboat in Florida I wondered if we had bitten off to much. This time it was not about a down payment or a yacht loan but about my ability to skipper a boat of this size. Two insurance companies declined to cover us but after some time and research we found the right fit. I was a nervous wreck when we left the dock for the first time. Ebeth was at the helm and I was busy trying to push the bow of the 25 ton boat clear on the pilings as we gently left her Florida slip. But over a thousand nautical miles later we know that we made the right choice.
